MATERIAL HANDLER
GENERAL SUMMARY: This position is responsible for numerous production related duties that include but are not limited to moving and organizing materials, following production schedules, and prepping, galvanizing and finishing materials.
This position will work closely with the Production Supervisor(s) to ensure an organized and efficient flow of materials through the plant while meeting established daily, weekly, monthly and yearly goals.
JOB DUTIES:
Hanging and prepping materials for the galvanizing process in a safe and organized manner
Operating overhead cranes and/or forklifts as necessary
Following company production and safety procedures
Cleaning, packaging and finishing materials after the galvanizing process is complete
Tracking all materials that are on site, both company stock and customer materials
Keeping the yard and materials neat and organized
Completing all other reasonable tasks assigned by the Supervisor or the General Manager
Communicating with the General Manager, and Supervisor(s) as necessary
DESIRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, AND/OR SKILLS:
Experience using cranes required
Experience using extended boom forklift highly desired
Prior Galvanizing and/or Manufacturing experience highly preferred
Ability to communicate in English required
High School Diploma or GED Equivalent preferred
Regular and timely attendance is required
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS: In order to do the job, the following physical requirements are necessary:
Valid driver’s license
Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally is mandatory
Must possess problem solving and communication skills
Must be team oriented, motivated and dependable
Ability to work 10-hour shifts, or until the job is complete, outside in all weather conditions
Ability to multitask and stay focused in a fast-paced work environment
Ability to occasionally move / lift items weighing up to 100 lbs.
Effectively and safely utilizes ladders, man lifts, forklifts, overhead cranes, etc.
Ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
Must be able to work in an open environment for long shifts (including weekends) exposed to extreme temperatures, standing entire shift
Must have the ability to concentrate on tasks for long periods of time and be able to observe and receive information from all relevant sources
The worker is required to have visual acuity to make general observations of facilities or structures
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
Must be at least 18 years old
Adhere to all Southland Steel Fabricator’s, Inc.
Safety Rules, Policies, and Procedures
Attend all required safety meetings
Inspect the tools and equipment prior to work each day to ensure they are free of defects
Use hand and power tools safely at all times with correct guards in place
Wear personal protective equipment in accordance with policy and adequate for specific tasks
