Pleasant Hall Pay Grade: Professional Job Description: This position serves as the Transition & Student Success Student Leadership & Development Coordinator for the Office of Retention & Student Success.
The coordinator reports to the Associate Director for Transition & Student Success.
The Transition & Student Success team is pivotal in fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment, ensuring students successfully integrate into the university community and empowering them to achieve their academic and personal goals.
The Transition & Student Success team is responsible for the planning and implementing of student transition programs and initiatives that support university goals and priorities, including Bengal Bound Orientation, Welcome Week, STRIPES, and the LSU Student Success One Stop.
Student Leadership & Development 40% Lead the recruitment, selection, day-to-day management, and evaluation of all Transition & Student Success student staff, including Bengal Bound Orientation Leaders, Student Success Assistants, STRIPES Leaders, Peer Mentors, and Graduate Assistants.
Lead student staff training and development for all Student Success Staff, including annual student staff retreats, banquets, and weekly trainings and meetings.
Manage the student staff salary and training budget.
Continually evaluate student leader training and development and make updates and recommendations based on data and research on best practices.
Transition & Student Success Initiatives 30% Assist with overseeing the Student Success Peer Mentoring Program as part of the Success Teams Initiative.
Manage Transition & Student Success involvement at various campus functions.
Work collaboratively with campus partners and stakeholders to build key relationships to enhance the transition & student success programs.
New Student Programming 20% Assist with coordinating and implementing new student programming (first-year and transfer students), including Bengal Bound Orientation, Welcome Week, One Stop, and transition programming.
This may include lifting items weighing about 15 pounds.
Support the planning and implementation of STRIPES and Fall & Spring Success Week programming.
Other Duties (10%) Assist with Enrollment Management programs, including supporting admissions, orientation, transition, retention, and enrolled student programming.
Complete special projects as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree Preferred Qualifications Advising/Supervision experience with ability to lead undergraduate student staff.
Proven success in managing and coordinating multiple concurrent projects efficiently and effectively.
Demonstrated organizational, leadership, communication, and public relations skills.
Special Qualifications Must be available to work nights and weekends, especially during peak periods.
Must possess a valid driver's license and background check which includes a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) report.
Must be willing to travel and work nights/weekends, especially during peak periods.
Due to the nature of the position and/or position responsibilities, this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.
As with all LSU employees, Coordinators have an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services.
Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health-related matter, they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center.
In situations where the student creates an impression that they are in danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students, or the appropriate law enforcement agency.
The employee, outside of those rights contained within FERPA, should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality.
A uniform may be required.
