Position Summary: Southland Steel Fabricators and Southland Grid Structures are leading production facilities specializing in high-quality, high-volume steel fabrication for the industrial and electric utility sectors.
We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Welding Program Instructor to lead a series of fast-paced, highly focused, 8-week classes aimed at training welders for our production facilities in Amite, LA and Greensburg, LA.
Duties and Responsibilities: Develop and deliver a comprehensive welding curriculum to meet AWS D1.
1 standards: Design and implement a structured and hands-on welding program that covers fundamental welding techniques, safety protocols, and industry best practices.
Develop lesson plans, assignments, and assessments to ensure effective knowledge transfer to students.
Conduct classroom and practical training sessions: Lead instructional sessions in both classroom and practical settings.
Provide clear demonstrations of welding techniques and guide students in their hands-on practice.
Foster a supportive learning environment and encourage active participation from students.
Assess and evaluate student performance: Regularly assess and evaluate student progress through practical tests, projects, and written examinations.
Provide constructive feedback to help students improve their welding skills.
Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and overall performance.
Monitor and enforce safety standards: Promote a culture of safety in the welding program.
Instruct students on proper safety procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of welding equipment and materials.
Monitor and enforce compliance with safety protocols during training sessions.
Stay updated on industry trends: Continuously research and stay informed about advancements and trends in the welding industry.
Incorporate relevant updates into the curriculum to ensure students are equipped with the latest knowledge and skills.
Provide mentorship and career guidance: Help students identify and develop their strengths and address any areas for improvement.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders: Coordinate with the Southland Steel Fabricators and Grid Structures management teams to align the welding program curriculum with the specific needs and requirements of the production facility.
Collaborate with other staff members to ensure a cohesive and effective training program.
Qualifications and Requirements: Welding expertise: Possess extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in various welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, and ARC welding.
Familiarity with different types of welding equipment and materials commonly used in the industry.
The primary welding process is FCAW.
Teaching experience: Prior experience in instructional roles, preferably as a welding instructor or in a similar technical training environment.
Ability to effectively communicate and demonstrate welding concepts to students with varying levels of experience.
Industry certifications: Hold relevant certifications in welding, such as Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or Certified Welding Educator (CWE).
Current certifications in welding processes and safety (e.
g.
, AWS D1.
1, OSHA 10) are highly desirable.
Safety-oriented mindset: Strong commitment to maintaining a safe learning environment and enforcing safety practices among students.
Knowledge of welding safety protocols and procedures.
Strong communication skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex welding concepts clearly and effectively.
Good interpersonal skills to interact with students, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
Organizational skills: Ability to develop a structured curriculum and effectively manage time and resources to meet program goals and deadlines.
Strong attention to detail in maintaining accurate records and student assessments.
Flexibility and adaptability: Willingness to adjust teaching methods and approaches to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
Ability to adapt to changes in the curriculum or training requirements based on industry advancements.
Team player: Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, management, and other stakeholders to achieve shared goals.
