Job Description
I.
JOB TITLE: Director of Middle Schools JOB TYPE: 112 POSITION REPORTS TO: Chief Instructional Director PAY GRADE: M-9 FLSA STATUS: Exempt ASSIGNMENT PERIOD 260 days II.
SUMMARY OF POSITION’S PURPOSE Assists the Superintendent and, as designated by the Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent, in planning, developing, and maintaining middle school facilities and educational programs which reflect optimum use of local, state, and federal funds.
III.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION – Master’s degree.
Type A or Level II Louisiana teaching certificate.
Certification as Principal, Supervisor of Instruction, or Educational Leadership-Level II.
B.
EXPERIENCE – Seven years of successful experience as a professional educator, three of which must have been within the last five in accordance with Louisiana State Department of Education certification requirements.
C.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS – Additional requirements as the Board may establish.
IV.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Domain I: School Vision Sets ambitious, data-driven goals.
Sets a vision for achievement Invests teachers, students and other stakeholders in that vision.
Collects data and prepares reports.
Develops and implements innovative programs which reflect the educational goals of the Ascension Parish School System.
Keeps informed of latest research reports and developments in areas of responsibilities.
Keeps informed of the latest research trends and developments in areas of responsibility.
Provides courteous and prompt service to all internal and external customers including students, parents, co-workers, etc.
Schedules and/or attends conferences with parents.
Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships and to ensure the confidentiality of students and employee records Domain II: School Culture Facilitates collaboration between teams of teachers.
Assists co-workers in the completions of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service.
Orients new co-workers and actively supports teamwork throughout the school system.
Provides opportunities for professional growth.
Confers with staff members and departments in providing available information for development of programs.
Guides, develops, implements, and evaluates pre-service and in-service training programs for professional personnel.
Works with principals in the improvement of individual staff competencies.
Develops a pipeline of teacher leaders.
Creates and upholds systems which result in a safe and orderly school environment.
Domain III: Instruction Observes staff and provides feedback on instruction regularly.
Coordinates the preparation of evaluation instruments in accordance with board policy.
Communicates the approved curricula to the professional staff and maintains a list of approved instructional materials.
Ensures staff sets clear measurable objectives aligned to common core.
Coordinates the selection of instructional material.
Assumes responsibility in development of curriculum for any courses in the assigned area of responsibility.
Ensures staff uses assessments reflective of common core rigor.
Develops grade-level and departmental criteria which provide horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of the district’s instructional program.
Confers with staff members and departments in providing available information for development of programs.
Coordinates the selection of instructional material.
Assumes responsibility in development of curriculum for any courses in the assigned area of responsibility.
Keeps informed of developments in curricula and instruction.
Develops and implements innovative programs which reflect the educational goals of Ascension Parish School System.
Coordinates the preparation of the evaluation instruments in accordance with Board policy, administrative regulations, statutory requirements and regulations of duly authorized administrative agencies.
Domain IV: Professional Responsibilities Assists in the development and coordination of the sections of the budget that pertain to curricula and instruction at the middle school level.
Assists in the development of educational specifications for remodeling projects or new construction.
Coordinates all phases of supervision of personnel working in grades 6-8.
Attends appropriate committee and staff meetings.
Attends national, state, and local meetings to keep abreast of new trends and innovative ideas, techniques of programs proven effective.
Assesses and makes recommendations on types of programs and planning needed in middle schools.
Reviews annual middle school level and state reports and ensures accuracy of content.
Consults, advises, interprets, clarifies, reports and recommends needs and status respectively, of the district’s programs at the middle school level.
Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve service, work processes and financial performance, e.
g.
expense management.
Assists in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
Performs such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent may, from time to time, find it necessary to assign.
