The Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR) is responsible for fairly and efficiently collecting state tax revenues to fund public services, to regulate charitable gaming and the sale of alcoholic beverage and tobacco, and to support state agencies in the collection of overdue debts.
Collectively, each program, unit, division and group work together to provide the core services to taxpayers of the State of Louisiana and stakeholders of the agency.
LDR is comprised of the following groups: Tax Collection, Charitable Gaming, Alcohol and Tobacco Control (ATC), Debt Recovery and Louisiana Tax Free Shopping Commission.
The Revenue Processing Center is responsible for the timely front-end processing of all tax returns, payments and related documents, including deposit of funds and data capture of tax information.
Annually the division will process 13 million pieces, including tax returns for 38 different taxes, associated remittances, supporting documentation and correspondence and internal documents.
These items include tax payments of $2 billion general fund dollars.
Several methods are utilized to accomplish these goals.
The functions are performed using permanent and temporary staff, variable scheduling and shift work, and pay differentials to hire and retain employees.
Performance of these functions directly impacts the cash flow for the state and the issuance of taxpayer refunds or collection notices.
ABOUT THIS POSITION: The incumbent will serve in the the Central Registration Section of RPC, which is the main contact between new taxpayers or their representatives and RPC.
This unit is responsible for accurately opening new taxpayer business accounts.
They work closely with the Secretary of State's office for online business registration.
Duties include, but are not limited to: Opening new accounts and administrative changes to existing accounts via work items.
Uses experience and knowledge of entity and tax types to determine and identify the appropriate account creation procedures for new taxpayer accounts or the maintenance of existing accounts associated with the taxes administered by LDR.
Daily functions include the reconciliation of tax account information from various paper sources, data capture software, and the Secretary of State database.
Compares data on source documents with information on the existing account in order to ensure the accuracy of the account information.
Reads and determines the appropriate response for business account correspondence.
Performs other related tasks at the direction of the Unit supervisor(s).
